New generations of graphics cards: AMD clearly dominates NVIDIA
While the GeForce RTX 5090 have no equivalent in terms of power, AMD has far more stock than NVIDIA.
On January 30, NVIDIA "opened hostilities" by releasing the first graphics cards of its new Blackwell generation, the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. With AMD lagging behind, NVIDIA was even able to launch the third model in its new range - the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti - before AMD finally struck back with the simultaneous launch of the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, the first models in its new RDNA 4 generation. Strictly in terms of timing, NVIDIA is well ahead of the game, but the survey carried out by ComputerBase and relayed by 3D Center paints a very different picture: from January 30 to mid-March, AMD graphics cards are leading the way. Oh, not in terms of performance, no, but in terms of units sold.
And not just a little, since as you can see from the graph above, the distribution is clearly to AMD's advantage, with the Radeon RX 9070 XT taking first place with 43.5% of sales over the period. Better still, second place goes to AMD, with its Radeon RX 9070 accounting for 13.9%. The first GeForce RTX 50 series - the RTX 5080 - only came third, with a 12.3% market share. In fact, if we disregard cards from previous generations, AMD has a 71% market share, while NVIDIA is limited to just 29%. The result is indisputable. That said, it's not surprising either. First of all, it should be remembered that the survey only covers the middle of March, and does not take into account NVIDIA's latest model, the GeForce RTX 5070: the least expensive model, it would undoubtedly have redressed the balance a little. Well... not necessarily that much, because NVIDIA's biggest problem is the size of its stocks: they're powerful, but they're impossible to find. Admittedly, Radeon RX 9000 availability isn't exceptional, but it's still much better. We'll see in a few weeks if the situation changes...
