A portable console with a huge screen planned by Tencent
Isn't China's Tencent a little bit folie de grandeur?
The Steam Deck was released in the first half of 2022, and with this machine, Valve completely changed the habits of many gamers: it was finally possible - without breaking the bank too much - to have your entire Steam game library in your hands, and almost all your games could be played wherever you were. Of course, the machine suffered from a few flaws, and some users were quick to point out that performance could be better, but above all, that the screen could be improved. Valve quickly corrected the situation by releasing, a year later, a version with a larger OLED panel, 7.6 inches diagonal instead of 7.
OLED is a blessing for all gamers, but 7.6" is still not enough for some, and this is no doubt what prompted AYANEO and Lenovo to release even bigger models: the KUN features an 8.4" panel, while the Legion Go goes up to 8.8". Imposing consoles? Yes, indisputably, but that's nothing compared to the project that Tencent is preparing. The 3D One is still only a prototype and may never see the light of day, but with its 11-inch screen, it's going to put everyone in agreement!
Well, not everyone, because such a large screen automatically increases the dimensions of the console, which looks like a monster in the video. More problematic still, a machine with such a screen is likely to be considerably heavier than its competitors: the 900 grams of the largest models currently on sale are already a handicap, so what are we to think of a console that could exceed one kilogram? Of course, all this will depend on Tencent's efforts to reduce weight, notably by opting for a smaller battery, but this would reduce autonomy...
Tencent could, however, count on the sobriety of the chip used to combat this reduced autonomy: like MSI, Tencent is said to have the idea of working with Intel and integrating the latest generation of processors from the American manufacturer, in this case a Core Ultra 7 258V with 4 Lion Cove cores and 4 Skymont cores for the CPU and 4 Xe2-LPG cores for the GPU. We're also talking about 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM and an SSD of at least 1 TB. But there's no mention at all of the price of such a machine, prototype obliged.
