The state of GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 stocks seems unclear, to say the least, but supply is complicated.

It's not unusual for a high-tech product to be out of stock. When we're talking about a graphics card, and especially at the time of its release, it's almost a habit since the crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, we pointed to an explosion in demand linked to the spread of telecommuting, as well as to the upheaval of supply chains... and of all things logistical, really. Unfortunately, the situation didn't really improve with the release of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series cards, and there's every reason to believe that things won't be much better with the release of the new ones.

After having perfectly organized its communication, with information initially distilled in dribs and drabs, leaving the rumour machine to do the work for many months of 2024, NVIDIA actually announced and presented the new GeForce RTX 50 series cards at CES 2025, held from January 7 to January in Las Vegas. In addition to the four card models currently planned by NVIDIA (RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070), there was also talk of numerous technological innovations such as the introduction of DLSS 4 and its multi-frame generation technique to further boost performance.

Alas, since these announcements, the machine has seized up. Several wholesalers stated that the situation was going to be tricky when the cards were actually launched - on January 30 - and they were quickly backed up by several manufacturers. As usual, NVIDIA didn't comment on these claims... until January 28, when NVIDIA took to its own GeForce forums to clarify the situation... and, reading between the lines, it's clear that the situation isn't exactly rosy.

To put it simply, as you can see in the screenshot above, NVIDIA states that it expects " strong demand for GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 " - so far, so normal. However, NVIDIA goes on to say that it " believes that stock-outs may occur ", but quickly tries to reassure by adding that " NVIDIA and its partners are shipping more products to resellers every day to help them get GPUs into the hands of gamers ". In other words, there are very few cards on the market. Production continues, of course, but there will be stock-outs, so don't expect to find the model of your dreams in the next few days, or even weeks.
