A PC processor from NVIDIA? The hypothesis is no longer the least bit far-fetched.
There's every reason to believe that NVIDIA-designed CPUs could be on the way in the third quarter of next year.
Until a few years ago, NVIDIA was known only to hardware enthusiasts... and many PC gamers. A graphics card specialist since its foundation in 1993, NVIDIA made its name with the general public thanks to another segment of the component market: chips for artificial intelligence. In fact, the same chips are used in both fields, as NVIDIA's graphics processors have proved so effective in all AI-related work. Since then, NVIDIA has been riding the wave of success that seems unstoppable.
It's a success that could lead the company to tackle other market sectors, in particular that of processors for desktop and laptop PCs. Relayed by Tom's Hardware, a news item published by DigiTimes explains all this. First of all, we recall the joint statement by Jensen Huang and Michael Dell, respectively heads of NVIDIA and Dell, who last May spoke of the imminent release - sometime in 2025 - of an NVIDIA SoC for Windows PCs. Today, DigiTimes confirms these statements and is even more precise.
According to DigiTimes, NVIDIA will be working on chips designed in-house and others in collaboration with MediaTek. In both cases, these are ARM-based processors designed for the PC market. NVIDIA is said to be aiming for the release of " premium " chips on ARM architecture, targeting both the general public and the business world. The aim is to present the product as early as September 2025, with a commercial release - i.e., a sale - significantly later, in March 2026. Given NVIDIA's strike force, such news is obviously not to be taken lightly, especially as the arrival of Qualcomm - also in ARM architecture - on the PC market has shown that Windows is no longer necessarily linked to the x86 architecture supported by AMD and Intel.
