Is Microsoft about to redesign the Windows 11 Start Menu?
The Windows 11 Start Menu may soon be redesigned to better meet the needs of certain users.
Among the many comments made about Microsoft's interface innovations for Windows 11, the dual issue of the Taskbar and the Start Menu is undoubtedly the most divisive. For many users - admittedly the loudest - Microsoft's choices are not in the best of taste. In the Start menu, for example, there has been a great deal of criticism of the way in which the publisher has arranged the applications, so that they are no longer listed directly in alphabetical order, but instead are highlighted by pins. Microsoft had also decided to integrate what it calls a "recommendation block" - albeit partially adjustable - to bring up links that don't necessarily correspond to users' wishes. So it may be that Microsoft has decided to listen at least in part to these criticisms.
PhantomOfEarth, who is often well-informed when it comes to new features in Windows 11, has made an announcement via his X.com (formerly Twitter) account. The announcement concerns the Start Menu, which Microsoft is reportedly planning to revamp. Mind you, things aren't yet completely set in stone, but it could well be that Microsoft is working on the possibility, as Clubic also explains, of " systematically opening the Start Menu on the list of all installed applications " and no longer on pinned and recommended applications. For those who have always preferred this display mode, this is an appreciable time-saver, because although Windows 11 still allows such a display, it requires multiple clicks on the Start Menu to reach the complete list of applications, arranged in alphabetical order.
Please note that, for the moment, no official communication from Microsoft has confirmed PhantomOfEarth's claims. So don't be too quick to rejoice. What's more, we've yet to see any trace of this modification in the versions available to subscribers to the Windows Insider program. Let's hope, however, that it won't be too long before those users nostalgic for the Windows 10 Start Menu can finally do without - at least for this part of the interface - software such as Start11 or StartAllBack.
