The Ryzen AI 300 series processors are the subject of a leak that tells us more about AMD's integrated graphics solution.

At Computex 2024 in Taipei - at the beginning of June - AMD presented numerous technologies and, in particular, the next two generations of processors that the American firm is preparing, on the one hand, for our desktop PCs and, on the other, for all those "light" machines: notebooks, of course, but also mini-PCs and portable consoles modelled on Valve's Steam Deck. Two generations that we know by their code names, Granite Ridge and Strix Point respectively, but which now have real trade names: Ryzen 9000 series and Ryzen AI 300 series.

In both cases, the CPU cores will be based on the Zen 5 architecture, eagerly awaited by all specialists. However, the Ryzen AI 300 series should also stand out for its integrated graphics solution, the famous iGPU. Why stand out? Because AMD had confirmed that the GPU cores would be based on RDNA 3.5 architecture, an evolution of the technology driving the Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. On paper, this Strix Point generation, with its Zen 5 / RDNA 3.5 duo, should deliver a considerable performance boost over AMD's latest notebook chips.

GPD

The American firm has confirmed that these Strix Point chips are scheduled for release "during July", but has given no precise indication of the performance we can expect from them. Strangely enough, it's even an AMD partner who has "spilled the beans": GPD has published a nice article in which the Chinese brand details the performance of the Ryzen AI 9 HX370 chip, which should be the most powerful in the new range, with its 12 Zen 5 cores and 16 RDNA 3.5 cores.

GPD

The first benchmark used by GPD, Cinebench 2024, enables this chip to score 124 points in single-thread mode and 1,525 points in multi-thread mode: despite a TDP twice as high as that of the Ryzen AI 300, this is more than the Ryzen 9 5950X in multi-thread mode and on a par with the Ryzen 9 7950X in single-thread mode. Secondly, GPD opted for 3DMark and its Time Spy scene, where the Ryzen AI 9 HX370's Radeon 890M graphics solution scores 4,221 points, while the Ryzen 9 7940HS and its Radeon 780M solution tops out at 2,791 points, with a TDP of 54 watts in both cases. Note that this Radeon 780M chip could also go up to 72 watts TDP, but even in this case, the Radeon 890M in the Ryzen AI 9 HX370 is still 36% more powerful! If all this is confirmed, AMD could well have a great card to play with this chip!
