Microsoft celebrates 9 years of the Windows Insider program
Aren't we being a little stingy at Microsoft after all?
Launched on October 1, 2014, the Windows Insider program is a way for Microsoft to keep in touch with the huge Windows operating system community, at least with the most curious of users. Indeed, the aim of this program for Microsoft is to make unfinished versions of the operating system available to members. Windows versions are of course to be used "at your own risk", but it allows the curious to preview the new features planned by Microsoft, and the development teams to get much richer feedback than if the tests had been carried out in-house.
So, Windows Insider has just celebrated its ninth anniversary, which is no mean feat in computing terms, but it's probably not enough for Microsoft, and the publisher may be saving itself for next year and the program's tenth anniversary. Indeed, as Neowin explains, to celebrate the Windows Insider anniversary, Microsoft hasn't spoiled its fans. Each member of the program will receive a simple badge - dematerialized - in the shape of a birthday cake with a "9" candle in the Feedback Hub, the application allowing them to provide feedback to Microsoft developers.
Microsoft has also designed two wallpapers for the occasion, which are not however reserved for Windows Insider members, but are there to commemorate the event. Two wallpapers - one light and one dark - that will clearly neither change the face of the world nor that of the program. In that case, we'd say Microsoft is a bit stingy.
