The Elders Scrolls IV Oblivion gets a remaster, 20 years after its release

Bethesda Game Studios has just launched a remastered version of one of its most popular titles. No, we're not talking about Skyrim yet, but its predecessor, Oblivion.

While The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind is often considered the real revolution in Bethesda's saga, it's not this emblematic episode that the publisher has chosen for this first "remaster". In fact, Bethesda chose The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion, which, since April 22, has benefited from a technical overhaul in order to port the game to the famous Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine. The result is dynamic shadows, fuller, more realistic lighting, much better lip-synching... On the other hand, the game's gameplay remains untouched, and may therefore seem a little dated, even to fans of the series.

The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion Remastered takes all the elements of the original game - its geographical setting, scenario and quests - but transposes them to the modernity of the Unreal Engine 5. This rejuvenation is not without its problems of storage space, as the new version takes up 125 GB of your hard disk or SSD! Another concession - hopefully a temporary one - is that only English voices are currently available, with all other languages offered only for text. We also regret that Bethesda's asking price is so close to that of a "real" new game, but this remaster will give you the opportunity to (re)discover this monument to video gaming.

Note that the configurations announced by Bethesda are nothing out of the ordinary, but that many users are critical of the over-indulgent recommendations. Fortunately, DLSS 4 and FSR 4 technologies are available to help keep the beast running.
