AMD's Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor poised to become the new king of gaming
After some disappointing leaks, the first results of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D are otherwise more reassuring.
According to the latest information available, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D will be released on Tuesday, February 28, in just two days. AMD would have asked the testers not to publish anything before February 27, in other words tomorrow. However, some did not wait for AMD or were not discerning in managing their data and it is already possible to discover some performance measurements. Measures that will comfort AMD fans, especially in the field of video games.
Indeed, a certain chi11eddog, whose words are relayed by Videocardz, publishes the first results pitting the Ryzen 9 7950X3D against the best of what is currently available in terms of "consumer" processors: the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and the Intel Core i9-13900K. This trio of CPUs is paired with a GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card from NVIDIA, but we won't know much more about the configuration used, except for the reference of the motherboard used in the case of the 7950X3D, an MSI X670E Tomahawk.
The three processors were then pitted against each other on a small panel of video games composed ofAssassin's Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Metro Exodus and Star Control. Tested in 1080p so that the graphics card does not limit the processors in any way, there is a clear hierarchy between the three contenders: the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the fastest, it is about 18% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X and more or less 12% stronger than the Core i9-13900K. The sample only covers five games, but as it stands, all indications are that AMD's new processor is the fastest for everything related to video games.
Chi11eddog completes his post with a screenshot where we can check the processor on the Ryzen Master and CPU-Z tools, but also and especially discover its performance on CineBench R23. This Ryzen 9 7950X3D seems to confirm the interest of the 3D Vertical Cache which is its originality compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X and which allows it to have much more combined L2+L3 cache memory: we are talking about 144 MB against 80 MB.
